I reviewed Po Boy Pizza back in August. I gave rave reviews, and then continued to slap myself for not realizing how awesome they are before uprooting myself to become a Westsider. In the meantime, the house sale has become a huge mess, and I’ve frequented Po Boy as a homage to what soon will be “remember when” days.

What could be wrong when everything looks SO RIGHT?

I used to hate bierocks. My mom made them with sauerkraut, and I thought that’s the way bierocks were meant to be. Well, much to my surprise, I found out bierocks are actually made with cabbage. And a revolution begins! I’ve been making (and freezing) bierocks on and off for the better part of a year. They’re delicious warmed up for lunches. Because of this, I was excited to try a “professional” bierock. And my friend Faye encouraged this adventure. We figured what better place than Bierocks, Brats n BBQ in Delano.

While I’ve never complained about southeast Wichita’s restaurant selection (since I can’t even make it through my pared down original list), I was originally disappointed by the lack of one-off Mexican restaurants. There used to be a spot at Lincoln and Oliver, in the shopping center near Southeast Carryout. And of course, you always have Felipe’s at Harry and Webb. And the lesser-known La Posada a little closer to Kellogg at Oliver. But I love cheese, and my cheese craving most successfully gets fulfilled at Mexican (or Tex-Mex) restaurants. And for the most part, I had to hit up Felipe’s to get that fill. Not that that’s bad. But nonetheless, I was excited to see a new spot in the old Angelo’s on Oliver. OK, I know it’s been other places since Angelo’s but that’s what I always think of. Man, what I’d give for an Angelo’s vegetable sandwich with extra Italian dressing. But I’m digressing. We’re here to talk cheese. Let there be cheese!

I always think it’s awkward saying “pho.” Don’t ask. It’s my own issue. I’m working through it. I haven’t had a lot of pho, and to be fair, I don’t branch out a lot. But like that one dude on “Say Yes To The Dress” says, “When you find the right one, why would you keep looking?” (Loosely quoted, of course.)

For all you Chick-fil-A fanatics out there who don’t drive down Rock everyday, you’ll be happy to know they’ve razed the gas station formerly in the spot rumored to be the new restaurant. I have no idea when it will be done, but progress is always comforting.

Eat mor chikin.

Ever since I heard there’s a place in Wichita that 1. specializes in fried rice 2. has a cheap (read $4!) combo of rice and eggrolls and 3. makes it fast and as you order it, I knew I had to go. Unfortunately, I wasted a lot of time before I got there. And I have to say, for $4, it’s hard to find a better deal in Wichita. I mean, sure, if you want a full buffet of Chinese food, you’re not going to get what you want. But quick and tasty, why not go here instead of boring McDonalds?

This is what it’s like to find your soul mate after giving up believing he exists.
Where have you been all my life?

I’ve wanted to go to Old Mill Tasty Shop for a long time. And luckily for me, I got a lunch date invite from one of my favorites, Sara! Bonus, her daughter Kathy accompanied us. Double-bonus, I got to order Girl Scout Cookies. Things in my life are looking VERY up recently, so I’m always afraid my house is going to burn down or I’ll get The Monella or something. That said, bring on Old Mill!

Awww. Isn’t it cute? I love downtown Wichita.

Disclaimer: I ruthlessly stole this image from someone’s Flickr account because I forgot to take one of my own. As far as I understand people don’t care if you use their Flickr images as long as you don’t make a profit (I won’t) and credit them (check it out). But if someone has a problem with me using the image, let me know!
