I’ve wanted to go to Old Mill Tasty Shop for a long time. And luckily for me, I got a lunch date invite from one of my favorites, Sara! Bonus, her daughter Kathy accompanied us. Double-bonus, I got to order Girl Scout Cookies. Things in my life are looking VERY up recently, so I’m always afraid my house is going to burn down or I’ll get The Monella or something. That said, bring on Old Mill!

Awww. Isn’t it cute? I love downtown Wichita.

Disclaimer: I ruthlessly stole this image from someone’s Flickr account because I forgot to take one of my own. As far as I understand people don’t care if you use their Flickr images as long as you don’t make a profit (I won’t) and credit them (check it out). But if someone has a problem with me using the image, let me know!

If you’ve never eaten at Barn’rds, please call me. We’ll go together. I freaking LOVE this place. I’m not sure why I’ve waited so long to review it. You know how people rave about Arby’s? I do NOT like Arby’s. Occasionally I’ll think I crave their curly fries and Arby’s sauce, only to eat it and remember their fries have a funny taste (almost like dirty grease?). Sure they’re crunchy and all the other things good fries should be. And don’t even get me started on Arby’s “wonderful” roast beef sandwiches. I’ve tried them. Several times. I used to assume I was just getting an odd bad sandwich. But, nope, they really just aren’t that good. Go to Barn’rds and you’ll know what a good roast beef sandwich is. I PROMISE.

I’m salivating looking at this little guy.

My recent trip to Blimpie resulted in not-so-great results. I mean, the sandwich was good, and normally that’s all that matters. But their lack of bread, knowledge and service left me wondering whether the place was maintained (read: clean). But before I wrote them off (and because I used to love the place), I figured I’d give them another shot.

My experience, after the jump…

Well, I certainly LOOK delicious.

I FINALLY got to eat at The Anchor! I am taunted on a daily basis by tweets of their specials, but hadn’t had a chance to get in there and actually eat. At this point I was worried when I actually went I’d be disappointed (because being overly anxious often leads to letdown with me). Nope. The entire experience was great. And not just because I got to have lunch with my sister, Kristy, and Godson, Luke.

Sweet potato fries. Oooh La La!

Welp, another unorganized Thursday, another chance to eat on the WSU campus. My first two (yes two) times around at WSU I organized my schedule so I had as little downtime as possible. I never chilled out on campus, and never ate anywhere. I did have Miller Lite (I think?) pounders once with my bro-in-law in the basement of the RSC, but other than that, my exposure was limited.

I remember a LONG time ago (AKA “my first time at WSU”) Blimpie came to campus and I always thought it sounded good, but, like I said I never went. And then when I started working near 29th and Rock I’d go to that Blimpie all the time. Then they closed. And my life got a little less happy. So when Lynds told me Blimpie was, in fact, still on campus, I was ecstatic. I had no idea any buildings other than the RSC had food beyond vending machines. Well, apparently I’ve never been in Hubbard Hall.

“What is Joey’s favorite food?” “SANDWICHES!”

This recipe is brought to you by my mom. Well, inspired by my mom. I was starving at my parents’ house on Friday and she said she had stromboli in the fridge. My first thought was it was a pasta dish. But, it’s not! It’s like a pizza roll… Sorta? Or a rolled up sandwich? I’m not sure. Anyway, It was yummy. I noted the egg wash/seasoning recipe and decided to venture into my own stromboli world. Good news: Simple and yummy!

Crunchy, chewy crust + cheese + meat + veggies = The world makes sense again.
