Almost a year after LK made the suggestion, I FINALLY got to Fat Ernie’s this week! And boy was it worth the wait. No, I mean, I shouldn’t have waited so long. No, I’m not sure what I’m saying other than if I ate at this place every week, I’d be buying new pants! Who doesn’t love a place that has an all you can eat special every single day of the week?

“You know I like my chicken fried. Cold beer on a Friday night.”

I’ve eaten at so many good places recently. I’ve decided I’m giving up ALL franchise restaurants, unless I’m meeting someone for a birthday (in which case it would be rude to say I’m NOT eating somewhere specific). So if I have the say-so, it’s all local establishments for me. And preferably ones I haven’t ever tried. Why? Because of places like Sport Burger. I can’t believe I’ve lived in southeast Wichita for eight years, and have never tried this place. Scratch that, I’m glad I haven’t. I love burgers. I’m not an expert or anything, but I know what I like. And I like this place!

Karla and I hit up City Limits Grill a LONG time ago. The pictures got lost in the shuffle, but we’re back with a vengeance. We ordered two things: a Tango’s Deluxe pizza and a Jalapeno Cheddar burger. Somehow I’ve misplaced the pictures of the burger. We were a split decision on the pizza. I actually liked the crust. It reminded me of the way St. Louis style pizza crust is supposed to taste. But Karla didn’t like it. She compared it to a cracker. So if you’re more of a deep dish/greasy crust pizza person, then this pizza will NOT suit you. If you eat deep dish but prefer thin crust or less greasy crusts, you might like it.

I’m a sucker for advertisement… And since I’ve never LOVED Wendy’s fries, I decided I’d give their “natural cut fries with sea salt” a try.

First of all, let’s be clear here: No matter what you fry the fries in and what kind of salt you put on them, they’re NOT healthy. I’m not sure they’re marketing for health appeal, I think it’s more from a “real deal” perspective. And while these fries were leaps and bounds better than their old fries (unfortunately, this means I’ll want Wendy’s more often than just a random cheeseburger), they weren’t anything amazing. They were crunchy (which is an upgrade from their old soggy fries). And they were ironically overly salty (whereas I remember Wendy’s as the place that throws salt in your bag because their fries are so bland).  Let’s meet in the middle on the salt wagon, Wendy!

We’ll still throw in a packet of salt. But you won’t need it!

Overall, though, the fries were an upgrade from the old. And Wendy’s must know it, too, because they’ve flat out replaced the old fries with these newbies. They’re marketed as “naturally cut from a Russet potato with skins on.” I definitely didn’t think they tasted fresh cut and fried, but still. Upgrade.

When I heard TJ’s opened near my house I new it was one of those awesome and awful things. The good news is they’re not open on Sundays, when I tend to eat crap for sport. But regardless, I made it in and dined on delicious diner delicacies.

If you’ve never eaten at Barn’rds, please call me. We’ll go together. I freaking LOVE this place. I’m not sure why I’ve waited so long to review it. You know how people rave about Arby’s? I do NOT like Arby’s. Occasionally I’ll think I crave their curly fries and Arby’s sauce, only to eat it and remember their fries have a funny taste (almost like dirty grease?). Sure they’re crunchy and all the other things good fries should be. And don’t even get me started on Arby’s “wonderful” roast beef sandwiches. I’ve tried them. Several times. I used to assume I was just getting an odd bad sandwich. But, nope, they really just aren’t that good. Go to Barn’rds and you’ll know what a good roast beef sandwich is. I PROMISE.

I’m salivating looking at this little guy.

Whew, that’s a long title! I originally planned to make three separate posts, but ultimately decided to do a full meal post. So, here’s what happened, right? I went to Dillons to get sushi for lunch. I got more Jonathan apples since they were on sale. And right next to the apples were anaheim peppers. They ignited my inner Iron Chef. I bought four peppers and planned to create a dinner based around one ingredient. This will be a disaster, right?

My inspiration. For the record, I got the orange one to mix it up. I didn’t know if it was under-ripe, would taste different, etc.
