Before you turn your back on this recipe, let me tell you. ALMOST everyone I’ve made this recipe for can’t tell these rolls have any whole wheat in them. Those who can, were likely basing it on the color of the rolls and their blanket disdain for all things whole wheat. Plus, this recipe came from a church cookbook from my dad’s hometown. I don’t want to be stereotypical, but when a cookbook has Mrs.(i.e. Mrs. John Smith) for the author, you know these woman have spent their lives homemaking. Which means best recipes, ever!

I dub you, “The Best Dinner Rolls In The History Of Dinner Rolls!”

Oh, bagels. You get such a bad rap. Something that started so beautifully, then got “Americanized” (read: supersized) into a 600 calorie, all white flour, bonanza. Well, I’m here to tell you you can have your whole wheat bagels, and eat them too. And they’re similar, calorie-wise, to store-bought whole wheat bread. And you can size them to your preference. I made 12 bagels, but you could also make 15 or so. Plus, they’re homemade! Everyone wins!

New York bagel, schmagel. I’m Kansas-made. And delicious!

My department at work is having a chili cookoff today. My white chili and red chili recipes are boring. So I opted to make a side. Cinnamon Twists! You might remember this recipe from an older post. Well, I made them again today!

“Good day. I’m here to stretch your stomach on this, the holiest of days. Thanksgiving Eve.”

This post is long overdue. I made bierocks and before I posed about it Blendra posted her recipe. So I decided I’d wait to post mine. Now, here I am, two months later, struggling to remember how I made them! I know I used this dough recipe, except I halved it. And I think I remember fairly closely the filling. So what are we gonna do? What I always do in the kitchen: Wing it!

Proof that whatever I did turned out awesome. Now if only I can bring it to life from pictures and my 31 year old memory!

Whew, that’s a long title! I originally planned to make three separate posts, but ultimately decided to do a full meal post. So, here’s what happened, right? I went to Dillons to get sushi for lunch. I got more Jonathan apples since they were on sale. And right next to the apples were anaheim peppers. They ignited my inner Iron Chef. I bought four peppers and planned to create a dinner based around one ingredient. This will be a disaster, right?

My inspiration. For the record, I got the orange one to mix it up. I didn’t know if it was under-ripe, would taste different, etc.

This recipe is brought to you by my mom. Well, inspired by my mom. I was starving at my parents’ house on Friday and she said she had stromboli in the fridge. My first thought was it was a pasta dish. But, it’s not! It’s like a pizza roll… Sorta? Or a rolled up sandwich? I’m not sure. Anyway, It was yummy. I noted the egg wash/seasoning recipe and decided to venture into my own stromboli world. Good news: Simple and yummy!

Crunchy, chewy crust + cheese + meat + veggies = The world makes sense again.

Yesterday I was inspired by a blogger’s grandma’s cinnamon twists. Fortunately or otherwise, there was no recipe involved. This meant I had to figure out how to make something similar, with no starting point. Several months ago I made cinnamon raisin bread. It was slightly undercooked so I never blogged about it. I figured I could take the cinnamon raisin dough, the cinnamon twists concept, butter and sweet stuff and voila! Sweet, frosted deliciousness!

I can smell the cinnamony goodness.
